    Wings Folded - Storage

I've always had room in my hangar to store my A5 without folding the wings. Well, my hangar is getting crowded, so now I'm forced to fold my wings. Is there any long-term detrimental effect from this? Are there any steps to be taken for long term, wings folded? Winter is coming...

No issues with wings folded storage

Hi Todd - no issues with long term wings folded storage. We do it all the time at our facilities for space constraints. However, if you wanted to be extra careful, you could purchase a wing support kit from us. It's the same one we use when trailering the aircraft and it can help prevent fatigue on the wing hang pins and also is added protection in the event someone pushed the wing release button by accident.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

I keep my A5 hangared with the wings folded as well - Signature agreed to cut the hangar fee in half since they charge by square footage.

Looking at wing folded storage at a different airport than I've been at , but am worried that someone may get curious and push wing release. $2500 could be worth it for trailering and bouncing around, but for just hanger storage has anyone just put a couple safety straps to catch wing if it releases?

I share my hangar with an RV-4, a boat and a 560sl. It always has folded wings BEFORE it crosses the doors. It makes it super easy to move and park with 0 hangar rash. 3 years and counting. The ONLY thing I would strongly recommend is check your Hang Pins everytime you hook your wings. The button should come out at least 3/16 of an inch when properly latched and you should be able to lift-up after latching and see about 1/8 of an inch of movement upwards. If your latches do not behave that way, have your mechanic look at them and, in the meantime, use the trailering straps to secure the wings to the Tail-Tip Holes. With Tijuana out of service, you CANNOT afford to have a wing drop to the ground. My mechanic (Jimmy) says that poorly latching wings is quite common. Otherwise, folded wings is a good thing, not a detriment.
