Upcoming Safety Directive for serial 135 onward

Icon emailed this on on Thursday:

ICON held a Continued Operational Safety (COS) board yesterday to address findings that potentially impact your aircraft.

The board has determined that a Safety Directive will be issued early next week to address a quality control issue identified at our wiring harness supplier. Up to 8 electrical connections on the A5 wiring harness in the engine cowling area, on the aircraft battery, and at the master solenoid may have been incorrectly crimped, which could cause them to become loose over time from vibration in flight.

Once published, this directive will ground your A5 until this section of the wiring harness can be inspected and crimped to the correct tensile setting.

Until then, ICON recommends that you do not fly your aircraft as a loose connection could result in electrical issues and creates the possibility for damage, fire, or an un-commanded engine start. We are developing a plan to return your A5 to service as soon as possible.

It is important to us that you are as informed as possible when we become aware of an issue that may potentially impact your safety. In this case, we believe that notifying you of the pending Safety Directive outweighs the importance of having the plan completely finalized.

    We apologize for this inconvenience.

I wonder what resulted in them discovering this. Normally Safety Directives aren't released without it actually happening.
