New use for old wing hang pins
I opted to upgrade my wing hang pins at my first annual and kept the old pins as backups. I started thinking the other day that they might make great FAA legal camera mounts - no tool needed to attach or detach camera mount. I’ll send some pics soon.

On the pics below: The first is the camera mount I made using the pin and a 5/16" to 1/4" adapter (from Amazon). The second is a mount made using a Nflite (I think) mount rethreaded to accept the 5/16" pin.

And finally, the modified pin itself. I made it using some left over bumpers (from Amazon) from my hanger doors. Drilled the bumper out a little bit to accommodate the pin and then heated the pin while pushing the bumper on the final quarter inch to melt the bumper as it conforms to the flared shape of the pin. Then I put the pin (with bumper) into a drill mandrel and spun it while sanding the bumper to fit perfectly into the win pin receptacle.

Can Anyone post a photo of the new Hang pins? My log book shows no replacements and I am trying to figure-out if I have the upgraded ones. Thanks!

Oh… Metallurgy change? If so, I am less worried since I have and will use the strap kit if I ever get to trailer it. Thanks!

A straight up material change. New ones are far superior better corrosion and fatigue life. That said the strap kit is a good thing as the receptacle can still and release the wing.

I personally have not had an issue with Icon sending parts directly to me. My A&P would rather have it that way since he doesn't have to be responsible for accepting or storing the parts until they are needed.
The newer pins are pricey though. I think it was $800 for the set including installation. I would think that maybe the Peter O'Knight guys might have kept a set of the old pins that someone was having replaced with the newer pins. Maybe??
