Paper POH - or not?
Just wondering how many out there have ditched their paper POH for electronic only. I currently fly with an electronic POH on my 796, my iPhone, and iPad - all of which I never fly without. Seems like overkill to even carry the paper anymore.
Just sayin' ... -

I didn't realize we could upload that to the 796?
I do find it annoying that Icon won't send a version that is easily printable by the page to just print and substitute the few pages that need swapping out, as if they are trying to force people to pay for an overpriced new printed version every time. It baffles me. The only time in the past I had a plane that had a bunch of POH updates over time they always printed and mailed the replacement pages and a list of exactly which pages to replace/add, rather than suggesting someone buy a whole new printed POH every time a page changed. -

Seems you wanted to make a point there by repeating it twice? I did check. He didn't like the idea at first but when I told him I had used iPad for manuals exclusively at AA for years his response was "I'm sure you got pretty fast at looking things up then - I don't see a problem as long as there's at least two electronic versions on board."

I should specify that the ASN, N number, and W&B information ARE on my PDF versions of the POH. THAT information is required in the POH - whether paper or digital. I have a copy on 796, iPad, and phone.
As far as putting it on the Garmin 796: attach the 796 via US cable to a laptop computer and you'll see the 796 show up as a hard drive. Navigate to the documents folder and simply drop a PDF version of your POH into the folder. -

Nope. I don't know how to use this system and somehow it went out twice. Kind funny you'd get bent out of shape over that.Havea great rest of your day.

Bent outta shape? Nooooo. But you didn't simply send the same message twice. You wrote a message, sent it, wrote a different message, and sent it. In the military we would call that a "foot stomper" - saying the same thing twice. SOOO - I thought you were trying to make a point that what you were saying was important. Sorry if I touched a nerve by phrasing it the way I did.

Two? That is interesting for him to say, but I believe completely inaccurate, because the advisory circular (thanks for posting that below, Eric) twice says that it "suggests" a backup and that the backup can be either electronic or traditional/paper, but there is definitely not language saying it is a requirement to have a secondary/backup copy.
