Hello everyone,

Since my French Mobi-Mats have been too short and too soft (for our tiny wheels), my Icon has been spending extended periods in the water moored at a buoy. I have been told by Icon that there is a 41 hour contiguous time limit for the hull to be wet before the paint softens. Is this a legit number? What is the background behind this time limit? Any knowledge would be appreciated.

As far as your mobi-mats, could you not make a ramp using patio slabs?

It’s not marine grade paint, it’s aviation grade paint. My understanding is that Icon has said the maximum contiguous water exposure is 96 hrs. Also, be careful because there can be leakage into the plane bilge if the rubber boots on the main landing gear are not properly sealed, or the adhesive loosens up. The bilge pump will not automatically turn on, and your plane would then sink!

I don’t have my POH in front of me but it does reference some like 48 hours continuous in the water due to the aviation grade paint.

Hey guys, Jen Claymore was nice enough to text me that it is in fact, 96 hours so that’s a little bit better but still it means I still have to dry her belly but I’d love to know is do I need to go for a 30 minute flight and just get the paint dry and start again for the 96 hours or do I have to give it an extended period of time to dry

96hr It was just what the paint company spec said. They had to communicate it from a liability perspective. You take on your own risk beyond that. I will also caution you on checking your bilge for water to see what the leak rate is.

Thank you very much, Brett. I can tell you from observation that one day in the water equals about 2 ounces in the village one day outside in a rain storm equals about 1 gallon
