    Battery light - not charging

    Any similar scenarios?

    After start
    Alternator light goes out 2500 rpm
    Fairly soon after battery light comes on
    Put a meter on it while running, shows 12V or so and slowly going down and not charging
    Alternator doesn't appear to be charging but no Alternator light on annunciator panel
    Replaced battery
    Same issue
    Checked all connections, ground at the batt, fuses behind the panel in cargo area, etc
    Still no answer from Icon engineering

    Hi Greg,

    My thoughts are a possible problem with the voltage regulator, or maybe even the wiring from the alternator to the battery. A Rotax mechanic should be able to find the problem without too much trouble. Good luck.

    The good news is the only Engineer left at ICON is an electrical engineer, the bad news is there is only one of him:

    I don't think its your Regulator B unless engine dies right after start up and the fact that the alternator light goes out this means its working.

    Question:
    • Is the overhead 30A C/B pushed in? that would cause this problem. Reason below.


    The aircraft starts on Regulator B (well it has a start power relay until you get to 400RPM then Regulator B picks it up) and it provides power to the engine the engine until it gets to 2500RPM for 3 seconds . Once you get to 2500 RPM for 3 seconds it flips to Regulator A for engine and Regulator B runs the aircraft systems. The voltage sensor wire that turns the Alternator light on and off is picked off before the breaker so it will not turn on alternator light if the breaker is popped but the Regulator B is still good. You know that sensor wire is good since the alternator light turns on and off.

    If its not the C/B you may have a problem of power distribution in the over head console.

    My bet is the C/B is popped.
