Aux in under armrest.
I couldn’t find any information on the aux in jack under the armrest, near the lighter power. Any insight would be appreciated. How is this used? Flying with Garmin 796.

You can plug in your phone or other device that plays audio just like a set head phones. It will play music/audio to your headset and your passengers as well. The G3X systems are stereo, the standard system will play through the Trig radio but will be mono as the radio itself is only mono.
you can also buy little Bluetooth aux in devices that charge via usb. -

Thanks for the info Bret. I actually tried it but didn’t hear anything. Now that you mention it works through the Trig radio explains why, as the radio was off when I tried it. I’ll give it another go now. Thanks again.

Another question Bret. I have a Garmin 796 in my Cirrus as well. The audio alerts from the 796 are fed into my audio panel. Is there any way to do the same in the Icon? We’re missing out on audible terrain alerts. I would have thought that the 796 would have also utilized the aux in jack. Thanks.

The 796 audio isn't connected to the radio. It would be a bit of a rewire job to do it.
also if you have the radio on and still don’t hear music there is a setting in the radio to turn on Aux in and to change the volume. -

I can confirm that, a least on the founder's edition, the audio out from the 796 does terminate in the wire bundles behind the 796 unit. It's a tight area to get to and there is not a lot of length in the terminated wires to work with. Possible - but not easy.

Not sure why they decided to terminate the audio at the 796. I’m sure they had a reason, as seems like most everything with the Icon was thought out. Thanks for the info.

Not that I remember. But it’s been almost 3 years since I’ve messed with one that has Aux in wired. My personal plane (a single seat Pitts S-1S) has a trig Ty-91 as well (I liked them so much while working at icon I bought one and installed it.). However just listen to music via my Lightspeed headset in my helmet which I can control muting for radio calls.

I went and tried it out today. Just like you said, the music comes through the intercom. As far as cutting out with radio chatter, I noticed the the music volume is reduced whenever there is radio chatter. All in all, looks like it should work out fine.

Playing around with the settings yesterday. This radio is actually pretty versatile. The aux in muting can be adjusted to the preferred level of muting, as well as if any muting should take place at all. For example, when using the aux input for flight alerts, rather than music. Easy to change the settings. The manual spells it all out.
