Was asked the Proper CODE for an Icon by ATC

Hello, This week-end I was completing a cross country flight and requested Flight Following from ATC (Knoxville). He asked aircraft make and model. I said Icon A5... He paused and asked 'what is the proper code for that aircraft". I told him I did not know. He subsequently coded me as a Cirrus. The next controller took over and asked me why I was flying so slowly...

Does anyone know the proper ATC code for the A5? How about the ICAO equipment codes for flight planning. I could not find in POH.

UPDATE: Found an FAA document: ORDER JO 7360.1D That said Code is A5

    Thanks.

I will confirm its A5. That said ATC WILL confuse this with the Grumman AA5 Cheetah and Tiger so watch out for that.

Yup, I can confirm A5 and also that I've been mistakenly tagged by ATC as a Tiger several times.

Filing type is 'A5' for flight planning. I usually explain to ATC that we are a light sport in the same sentence, so they don't confuse us with the Grumman's or anything faster. I also correct them when they call the ICON an experimental.
We're still teaching the controllers in the Bahamas what we are.

Always tell them Light Sport when you identify.
