Rotax 912is MANDATORY 5yr. Rubber Replacement
Hello Everyone,
James will be coming up to TN to complete my 100hr/Annual on my Aircraft. My airframe was delivered to its first owner In January 2018. The engine was installed in the airframe on November 11 2017. James educated me on the fact that I will need to pull the engine and replace ALL rubber components on the engine including Engine Isolators. This requirement is NOT optional. It's about 5K in parts and 40hrs of labor. I may be one of the first to get this done so I will keep you all abreast of developments. More to follow. -

Make sure they torque all the oil return lines to spec!

Not personally, but this SB came out in 2018 after an oil return fitting on the engine was found loose (and dumped oil).

Ahhh yes, that was Genesah's engine out. She told me about it in detail. She put it down in a cow pasture, gear up, if I recall. What was most shocking, and good info for us all, is that from the moment the oil light and indications showed to total engine out was less than a minute. If that oil light comes on, expect to be gliding very very soon.

If I recall correctly from the first start of oil pressure loss to engine failure was about 4 min. Regardless it not long. To be honest though how long do you expect an engine to stay alive with no oil pressure while spinning at 5500 RPM. Personally I think 1 to 5 min is kinda impressive.
What I don't like is that Rotax doesn't throw a Major Fault (land aircraft / Engine for icon owners) or even a Minor fault (engine light for ICON owners) for oil pressure but will throw a minor fault for coolant temperature. That was a real head scratcher for me at the time. Icon took it on itself to design a change to the DAC logic to throw these faults if this occurs but it wasn't easy. Regular Rotax users don't have this though.
