    Garmin G3X Touch 9.14 released

Garmin last week released 9.14, and it appears to finally have fixed the ECU alert CAS that has been present since 8.91

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...ls.jsp?id=8901

If you haven't updated the G3X system since delivery, these are the major new features since then:

    • Add optional audio alert for high-airspeed condition
    • Add optional audio alert when reaching safe altitude after takeoff
    • Add optional audio alert when approaching VNAV profile
    • Add optional CAS reminder to check baro setting when on the ground
    • Improve glide range ring to take terrain and obstacles into account
    • Improve radio tuning
    • Improve map display of TFR, NOTAM, and obstacle data
    • Add support for Smart Glide
    • Add support for additional FADEC interface status data

    Awesome!

How does one enable the glide range ring on the G3X?

Best Glide Speed (Vg) and Sink Rate (at Vg) must be configured on the Aircraft Configuration page in Configuration Mode. Hold down the MENU button when powering the plane on.

The best Glide speed is around 60 KIAS, but I don't recall what Sink Rate I configured mine for. I will take a look.

I love having the glide ring on the MFD. It often shows that areas I think are reachable in an engine out are actually not!

For Vg I did some testing today, I think -750 ft/min is a reasonable number. I did learn that it was not the 9.14 release that clears the ECU CAS, but an updated Icon config file. It is installed under MRA01009-A.

    Very helpful, thank you @Marcus!

I'm curious, what do you have set for your Glide Ratio at VG?

Don't have it handy but let's do some math.

Glide Ratio = Horizontal Distance / Change in Altitude

    60 KIAS ~ 60 NM/hr = 364567ft /hr = 6076 ft/min
    6076 / 750 = 8.1

    8.1:1
