50 hours plus on the new prop. Feedback
Hello all,
I have put over 50 hours on the new e-prop quad-blade prop and I am here to report it was the best 6K I ever spent on the airplane. The noise level in the cabin went from abusive (even with ANR headsets... I bought 4 different ones to try to find a comfortable noise level) to quite tolerable. I can now remove my headsets to adjust my glasses or cap without injuring my ears... The climb is significantly better. Last week on the lake, I was between 1100 and 1200 FPM on each full throttle climb. RPM went from 5200 (old prop) to 5350 with new prop. I am very happy with the GW increase as well. I did both at the same time. Fuel burn seems a tad better and cruise is about 3-4 knots better. I have never encountered a prop change that helps at both ends of the spectrum. I will report again at 100 hours. -

Thanks for the info. I have been contemplating making the change but wanted to get enough feedback from folks on performance increase. So far no one has regretted the upgrade!

...of course, the other option is to contact Matt Oxender at Great Lakes and get him to slap a 916 in there with a variable pitch prop (you can even reverse out of a dock!!)... if you're going to spend money anyway, it might be worth checking into it.

HA HA! Glad I am not the only one who tried several ANRs with the old prop. And the noise level is much lower, same for vibration. Climb is improved, but not to the levels you are reporting. Although I've been flying on the new prop for 11 months, last week it jumped off the pavement so quickly I was startled! Water ops are also improved. Both my plane partner and I have said to each other several times that it was the best money we have spent on the plane. We did both the prop and VGs for the GW upgrade.
